Pharmacy First Service

At Portsmouth Pharmacy, we are proud to deliver the NHS Pharmacy First scheme, allowing you to easily access professional support for a variety of ailments without the GP waiting times.

What is Pharmacy First?

Pharmacy First is a nationwide Pharmacy led scheme which enables patients to receive expert advice and treatments for a range of minor illnesses and ailments, without having to make a GP or hospital appointment. 

How does Pharmacy First work?

If you feel that our services are suitable for your ailment, all you need to do is visit our Pharmacy and provide us with your name, date of birth, and your NHS number. That way, our staff can provide you with advice and tips on how to manage your condition at home, or prescribe appropriate medication if necessary (if you are eligible for free prescriptions, this would be therefore be free of charge). 

Who can access Pharmacy First services?

Anyone can access these services, by simply filling out a contact form on our website or visiting the pharmacy at your own convenience. You do not need an appointment or a prescription, our Pharmacists will provide a safe space for you to discuss any concerns and provide an in-depth consultation. 

What illnesses can Pharmacy First treat?

Our Pharmacy First service can provide support and treatment for a variety of conditions, including:

 

  • Earache (in children aged 1-17 years)
  • Impetigo 
  • Infected insect bites and stings
  • Shingles (in adults aged 18 and over)
  • Sore throat (in children and adults aged 5 years and over)
  • Sinusitis (in children and adults aged 12 and over)
  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections – UTI (in women aged between 16-64 years

If your condition or symptoms are not listed above, you can still visit our Pharmacists for advice. They may be able to offer alternative treatment, advise on over-the-counter medications, or refer you to another service if it is deemed necessary.
